I mean is should work because they are the same bell housings so it would bolt up. But you would need the column shifter with the up down switch and a standalone controller as well. But why would you want to go a put in a tranny that there are hardly any aftermarket parts for? Where the 48re has a ton of high performance parts. Not trying to sound like a dick

I was just wonder because of the 2 extra gears. When towin my toyhauler up the hills I end up way to fast to be safe to keep it in 4th gear and slows down a little to much (mph wise) in 3rd or I got to rev it out pretty high to keep the mph up. Should it be ok to rev it out to 2800 / 2900 at 70mph with out causing damage? This is my first diesel and am under the impression high rpm is bad for them so that is what caused my concern.

I'd like to be able to make the swap myself. My tranny is tired at 100K and tends to shudder when shifting to second or third if my Smarty is turned up past 2
I can't remember where I read that somebody was working on a stand alone pcm for the conversion. It would ne nice to have the two extra gears for towing and economy.

From what I have heard up here, the 68 isnt that great of a tranny. The 48 isnt the best, but there is alot of aftermarket support for a fairly new transmission. You can buy a built 48 and put it in your truck opposed to messing with wiring/brackets/etc. Dont get me wrong, Im all for swaps if they are going for the better.

I am about to take this plunge. just need extra money. Suncoast has done this conversion on a 2000 VE truck. I am hoping to be the first 5.9 with their new comp 68rfe trans. The problem is that the 5.9 computer cannot read the comp program so B&G and H&S are working together to get the program written on a 5.9 Black maxx.
Comp trans $6200
Black Maxx with trans tune $1200+
torque converter $1500
07.5 shifter and electronics ?? not sure of cost yet
its not cheap and people are right they are not that strong if you are planning on racing or sled pulling. Suncoast thinks I am crazy to get rid of my 48re but I want an extra gear betwwen 3-4 and a double OD so its all worth it to me!
