Default Loosing coolant

I have an 04 6.0 and am loosing coolant from the exhaust. My truck is running great though, no miss like a head gasket and no overheating.Could the prob lie in the turbo or maybe just the intake gasket?

More info.... hit the sticky at the top of the section. Need to know if you got smoke. what color. Smell sweet? Burn your eyes? From the initial info it sounds like an EGR cooler. Need to know what mods are done to the truck and whether or not there are any CEL codes. Have you had Oasis report run on the truck? That will tell us any warranty work thats been done. Need more info.

Everytime I've blown headgaskets the truck still ran like normal with no miss...

It's either the EGR cooler or the headgaskets.

The turbo would have nothing to do with coolant coming from the exhaust and likewise, the intake gasket wouldn't really do that either. The intake gaskets don't really fail on these, they're a thick plastic with rubber o-rings built in, in fact they're supposed to be reusable.

Need more info, check the sticky at the top of the page for new guys.

Sorry guys, rookie mistake.
The smoke is def coolant, white and sweet smelling. Don't have any coolant in the crankcase or oil in the coolant. also if I find it is the EGR what is the best solution? Repair to stock or an EGR delete?

Mods= S&B cold air intake, strait pipe exhaust, Edge EVO programmer, but never ran on extreme setting. The truck has 160,000 and has had head work and turbo work done around 100,000. Thanks again for any info!

P.S NO codes are showing

There are a couple of ways to deal with the EGR cooler. You could do a delete or the bulletproof diesel EGR. A delete is the simplest way to deal with it. you could yank the old one and weld in freeze plugs or go with one of the many kits similar to Sinisters kit. If your location is what it says in your user info i dont think you have to worry about emissions testing in kansas. If it is in fact the EGR cooler. What head work was done around 100,000?
were the heads removed and if so were they decked to ensure they were flat? Mdub will surely be chiming in here soon, and he is more knowledgeable but its sounding like a cooler to me.

By the way if you do the delete you will need a programmer capable of disabling the CEL. most around here will say SCT including myself.

Thanks Arsenal,
I know the heads were removed, but don't know if the heads were planed as it was before I bought the truck. Thanks again! Youve been very helpful.

Pull the EGR valve and look into the intake manifold, chances are it's wet. If it is, it's the EGR cooler failing. Just delete it if you live in a state that doesn't smog test.

When mine had a "mystery leak" it was from a hose fitting on the EGR cooler. I was really bad in the winter and it was on the right side. I waited until it was dripping, crawled under the truck, followed the wet spot up, then under the hood and started peaking around on the right side. Simply putting on a hose clamp was not an option, there's some funky press on, metal bib/clamp/sleeve thingy on ID and OD that wouldn't have let a standard band clamp tighten up and seal the leak. (The little red hose next to the right side intake runner.) You'll see what I mean if you do a cooler delete.

Sure enough, one EGR cooler delete kit later and I don't loose coolant any more. But keep in mind, mine was an external hose bib leak, not a cooler leak.

Ok fellows,
I see no signs of coolant through the EGR port. Does this mean I'm lookin at a head job? If so does any one know a specialist within 100 miles of southeast Kansas to do a full on bullet proofing because if I have to go that deep I want it to be all out and last quite a while?

I wouldnt jump on the headgasket bandwagon just yet. If you get up on top you can see the hose that connects the EGR cooler down in the valley of the motor on the passenger side. Also look at the degas bottle. check the cap and if you have any discoloration of coolant around the cap.
