Cummins Performance Mods Questions
so i am going to be putting performance mods on my pickup very soon, my dilemma is that I want to get the Smarty CR, but they also have another one that they claim to be the best electronic module for the common rail cummins. its called the powermax CR. The descriptions are very similar and the power output is close if not identicle,(depends on the site ) This thing throws 190 hp to the ground and 580 ft. lbs of torque! Now I know my stock tranny is not going to handle pushin somewhere around 1100ft lbs of TQ. I just wanted to know the best route to go. i could get the Smarty CR, and just never take it higher than level 3 until i beef up my tranny, or should I do he tranny mods first? i know i will need to upgrade my input shaft, my TQ converter and the valve body . will that make my tranny strong enuff to handle that power? If ne one has ne other advice, id love to hear it, cuz this is my first truck and i wanna do it right. also is there a difference between what TST was calling a pusher pump(FASS) and the bd diesel high volume lift pump? cuz the lift pump is half the price and supports up to 600 hp. do i still need a fass pump even if i upgraded to the bd diesel lift pump?

Just my opinions, so take them for what they are worth.
TST and the MADs guys collaborated in some fashion on the 3rd gen stuff. So, I would suspect peak power and such is similar.....
To me, it's do you want on the fly adjustability, or do you mind shutting down the truck to change levels?
The BD pump is a pusher pump. It's a helper so to speak and adds an additional pump to the system. Now you have two potential failure points. I think 600HP is stretching as well. JMO.
The Fass and AirDog systems come with or without filters depending on what you are trying to do. AirDog is a better value right now until they raise the introductory pricing. I suspect that is happening soon.
The AirDog system comes with 1/2" lines, I believe the FASS is 3/8" line. Pureflow claims the 100GPH will support 600HP. Again, a stretch in my estimation. And I feel that is a stretch for any brand 100GPH pump. However, you can get the 150GPH pump at the same price, but they do recommend installation of a draw tube. It is included in the 150 kits. Normally, the factory fuel filter is removed and or bypassed.
The Raptor is a pump without filters and again, 100GPH and 150GPH. Also, 1/2" line. No draw tube is included as these are non bypass on demand systems. You retain your factory fuel filter assembly. There is a $10 price difference between the 100GPH and 150GPH systems.
All AirDog pumps carry a 6 year warranty which is like the FASS warranty.

Regarding transmission upgrades.
It depends on how much power you are going to make and the intended usage of the truck.
You'll be putting a full trans soon enough, because that's the nature of the beast.
I also recommend planning the trans into the first phase of build, no one ever does. SO, plan on using the trans vendor of your choice and save up $3-$6K for the trans.
